Disney has upped their game when it comes to customer experience (CX) and personalized customer service. With how quickly technology has advanced and data that is available when it comes to mobile devices, Disney has been able to stay above the curve when it comes to customer expectations and continues to deliver.
Magic Bands
Disney first introduced Magic Bands in 2013 as part of their MyMagic+
experience. The program started in 2008 with a sole purpose of addressing customer pain points through the use of technology, (i.e., wearables, IoT, mobile devices, etc.). Magic bands allow guests to lock and unlock their Disney hotel room, pay for merchandise and food, verify park admission and fast passes (through biometrics and Radio Frequency (RF) technology). Since then the introduction of the first Magic Bands, Disney has released three apps to enhance a guest’s vacation experience.
Mobile Applications
My Disney Experience App :
This app allows guests to book your advance dining reservations (ADR), book fast passes (FP), view photo pass pictures,
and mobile order food (at participating quick service locations). An added feature is that it provides a little agenda of each day based on your FPs, Parade times and ADRs. Additionally, it also allows those of us who get a little Disney depressed (yes, it’s a real condition!) when we’re not at the parks (aka home), to check the daily wait times for some of our favorite rides. I did notice while trying “Small World” at the end of the ride, my kids’ names were posted on the “Good Bye” sign. I thought it was a nice personalized touch
Shop Disney Parks App :
This app allows guests
to shop through an easy-to-use browser. Identifying where to find specific merchandise products while they are at the parks and have them delivered to their hotel or home address with a click of a button. This app comes in handy when looking for specific, hard-to-find items. Additionally, it allows the guest not to have to carry around their purchases throughout the day and have larger items to be directly shipped home. Lastly, guests are not limited to only using this app during their stay, but allows them to shop from the comforts their own homes.
Play Disney App :
Released this summer the Play Disney app allows guests to play games will in line or waiting for reservations. There are interactive experiences to specific attraction queues, (e.g., Slinky Dog Dash, Space Mountain, Peter Pan’s Flight, etc.). Additionally, guests can enjoy listening to Disney’s most popular songs as well as park soundtracks. Disney will continue to expand the interactive experiences with other attractions and lands, especially with the highly anticipated Star Wars Land, Galaxy’s Edge; scheduled to open in WDW in late Fall 2019.
As someone who works in the technology market and customer service industry, I’m excited to see where Disney will take us in the future. With all this data, I’m sure Disney will continue to try to remove all the headaches of visiting their parks and provide more personalized service.
Let me know if you would like a more in-depth review of any of the apps and their capabilities. And with that, I hope you’re having a magical day!
